- Length
- 10 - 20 pages (including everything)
- General Guidelines
- Your IA Report is not a dressed up retyped Log book, what you put in your IA Report should be a high-level summary/overview of your IA experiences. Retyping your log book is a huge waste of your time. If you have that much typing time, why not use that time and your brain to think, analyze, and summarize your IA experiences, e.g. ask yourself the questions listed below in the content guidelines.
- I have seen IA students copying pages of user manual as their IA report, this is a waste of both your time and my time.
- Your Report need not contain a cover page, Table of Contents, or List of Figures, but it must contain references if you lift or copy stuff from other places.
- No need to include source code. I won't be reading them. Further, it might be proprietary.
- You might want to include a few representive screenshots of products you developed at the company when you are writing the section about your project.
- Content
- Your report should be typeset professionally in either LaTeX or Open Document Format. All pictures and diagrams should be created electronically. It should contain the following sections:
- Abstract/Acknowledgement
- Thank your IA company supervisor or any people who have helped made your life easier at the company.
- Introduction
- What is your role/job at the company?
- Description of Company
- History of Company
- Countries in which it operates in
- What are the company's core businesses or products?
- What is its market share?
- List Major customers.
- List major competitors.
- Is the company a Temasek Linked Company (TLC) or a Private company?
- Who are the major shareholders?
- Profile of Management Team
- Is the company profitable? If it is listed, what is it's EPS ratio? Profit per share? What are the forecast for the next few quarters, i.e. is it expecting to increase its profit or lose market share? What is the year to year increase/decrease in revenue and profits? All in all, analyze the company as if you were analyzing the NKF.
- List of Projects undertaken
- Provide a master list of projects you have participated at the company
- Describe each project in its own section, including your role, size of project team, geographical location of team members, management structure (who is the team lead? who do you report to?)
- Describe the technologies/skills you have learnt for each project
- Conclusions & Discussions
- Describe the pros/cons of working at your IA company.
- Describe what changes you would like to see at the IA company. Suggest areas for improvement, e.g IT automation of tasks, etc.
- Describe the pros/cons of the IA program, e.g. does it waste your time, would you have preferred taking more courses during this period, or started your own company, etc. Make suggestions for future improvements.
- Reference
- List any reference manuals, books that you have referred to.
- All non-original pictures, figures, diagrams, text, equations must be properly cited or quoted.
- See FAQ on plagarism
